a bunnys tale, the beginnings……

here at the farm, a strange thing started happening.
we had always lived with the comins and goins of many kitties. it seemed when humans tired of their kitties some of them thought it would be just fine to leave them on the side of the road…and, well, as i turned out, our 10 acrea woodlot just happened to be on the side of this road.
so for a long time, the farm was a reststop for wayward kitties. some more wayward than others, and some turned out to be on the extended stay plan.
and then a something started to happen. just as quickly as the
kitties showed up, they started disappearin,until there was just one, nada.
well, strange as that seems, it gets stranger still, cause we started noticin, here in the woods, little bits of “fluff”. not like the kind we find from our angora goats, those are more like woolie curls, as angora goats have “naturally coily hair”, as olivia likes to say.
so anyway, first we just noticed little bits of fluff, and things dartin around in the brush, and little bits of this and that disappearin from the barn, and yard and house.
and then one evening, just as the moon was risin, i had my first glimpse.
a bunny was in the castle yard, rootin around in the herb garden………..and she was puttin herbs, and acorns, and all kinda things in a ….basket!

“oh” i said, with just a touch of fear. i was just a little startled, you see to see a bunny in the garden , dressed in a dress, with a sweater, apron and a little basket…..and collecting herbs from the garden!
“oh,good evening,” she said, without a trace of fear….why she didnt even look up at me , she just kept on with her job.
“i am almost finshed, she said and then you might join me in my evening break.”
oh yes, i thought , i could do that…………and that was how i came to learn about the bonneybunnies and how they had come to the farm.

well, bunny #1 and bunny #2 have been finished. they had a lovely send off party and headed out to their new homes.
they decided they could make part of the trip together, so off they went.


it was
pretty sad to see the girls go.
but they were heading out to make a new home with 2 of my farmgirl friends from maryjanes farmgirl connection and i knew they would make a good life for themselves.
their journey would not be without hazards, but i felt we had given them both a good start, and they were armed with the best thing for a long journey……a good friend.
hope they have a safe journey.

good journey, little bunnies

the hardest part of crafting for me isnt coming up with the ideas, almost everything i do has been done before, i just put my slant on it. the hardest part is sending your creations away and wondering how they will fare….if the folks who get them will be not just satisfied but joyous over their new acquisition.
today we had a fine send off for two little bunnies that started their journey here and will find new homes.
they are both going to farmgirlfriends so i know they will be well loved, and i hope their new “moms” will like them.
i though, planned at this time to be making some domestic goods, clothes line bags, some more aprons, and stacking trays, a few ideas that have been rattlin around in my head for over a year. ….
but the little bunnies came not from my head, but from my heart, via my little granddaughter and muse olivia. she is wise beyond her 4 years, and will occasionally forcefully propel me into a project that i had no idea of.
How do you like my little kitties i asked her one day,……well, there good, but there not rabbits, she said. what do ya mean, of course their not rabbits, their kittys.
oh, well your supposed to be making bunnies……and so i did.
good journey little bunnies, its been great!

obsessed with acorns,pincushions &little baskets!!!

i appear to be “hooked” on crafting with the burr oak acorn caps. i started to collect them several years ago and just knew they would inspire me to make something wonderful with them. welllllll, i kissed a coupl of crafting frogs before i actually came up with a craft item. my acorn pincushions/natural wool keepers. they are stuffed with cedar sawdust and make a nice little pincushion or stashed in the sweater drawer they are guaranteed to keep those pesky moths at bay. if ya know me, or even have casually met me, you have seen the acorn craft. i spare no one.
well just when you thought it was safe i have come up with a new little crafty item to make with those caps. ……..little rustic baskets for my bunnies.

Mmmmmmm, i wonder if those little bunnies need their own little acorn pin cushions.?

tea time at the farm

here at the farm, i have so many helpers. one in particular is olivia. she likes to give me advice about my crafting and also to provide “quality assurance” to make sure that all of my stuffies are playworthy. sometimes when she has just worked too hard, she and some of her friends will take a little break.

i dont know what we would do here without her. she loves to gather eggs, and counsel the hens when they are falling down on their jobs.
this last weekend , she helped hang three loads of laundry on the clothes line.
aw, i feel another break comin on.

hare today, gone tomorrow

well, as quickly as the bunnies show up they are disappearing from the farm. at this time the only bunny left here with us is miss bonnybunny.
she loves to be in the kitchen and is happy to brew you up a little cup ‘o tea.
i hope she will be joined soon by more of her bunny buddies, as frannie is recovering well from her burn and is back to crafting.

bunny births at the farm

i dont know what happened to valentines day
but here at the farm we have started to prepare, craft wise for easter.Little bunnies have started appearing everywhere………


and here is a sample if the little ones that have started appearing. the plan is for them to have clothes and little handmade baskets with eggs(or mabey baby bunnies!) i will keep ya posted on their progress.
they are all made of recycled knits and their clothes ,baskets and eggs will all be from recycled materials as well…we are trying hard to maintain a “green” crafting environment here at the farm and the bunnies are all for it! greens, more green!
so far we have 6 bunnies in various stages, but who knows with bunnies, where this will lead!

another critter added to the group

here is a pic of my newest addition to the stuffie collection. they are knitted felt animals that are filled with cedar sawdust. most of them are on the small side, this little kitty is 7″ to the tip of its tail and about 3 1/2″ from its feet to the top of the body.
they are 100% made from recycled materials, so even though this one is a calico, i suppose it also qualifies as a “green” craft.

well, some of them came our
topsy turvy, but i have meant to show you some of
my dad’s crafts for a long time…..and now it seems that the blog is cooperating nicely with me so here goes:
My dad was born in 1909, so he is no longer with us, but he is in spirit and it seems that i probably have caught the family bug of makin things.
he is the fellow in the top picture, with the purple apron on, (i added the color, i dont ever remember him wearing purple nail aprons.) this is a pic that was taken on his first job after WWII, he was in the seabeas during the war. he spent his whole life as a carpenter, as did 4 generations before him, and i didnt know as a kid that anyone worked at a job that they didnt love.
the other pics are a grouping of various toys that he made in retirement and actually the “woodie” was made before my sister and i came on the scene, so i guess it is about 60+ years old.
the alter was built when my dad was in the pacific during the war. it always sat on top of my parents chest of drawers in their bedroom and now it sits on top of my chest of drawers.
in my mind my dad has always been a great carpenter with a simple mind about life. he was honest, he loved his work, he loved people, and he loved his family. he built the only home my sis and i ever lived in as children and most of the furniture, and alot of the items in our church and community. it gave me a wonderful sense of security, and now i surround myself with his items in my home and i still can feel his presense their when i look at them. thanks dad.

christmas is over, let the new year begin!

well, it was a great Christmas, here at the farm. unseasonably warm, in general. every year i think i will keep the decorating in control, and then, i open the trunk and see all the old ornaments, and decorations, and of course i have to pull them out and set them up.
Most of them are family treasures handmade by my mom or dad, and now i have started making my own. i cant believe i am making ornaments, i truly have become my mother!
I took a self imposed break from the crafting and tried to take care of some business, some things were accomplished, others may just not get done. We had a new baby goat here at the farm.He is a little cutie and charming us all as is the way of the goat kids.
Tomorrow i will start again on my crafting, hopefully a few things for valentines day, easter and in to the spring.
i have sent off for my seed catalogues, and this year we hope to focus on heirloom seeds, they all have a story to tell and some are quite charming.
I hope this year to post more on this site and also on the site for the farm.
this site will really be dedicated more to crafting, the other site will be the farm, animals and progress on different farm projects.
